Sector by sector

One question per sector: how many businesses already have that word painted on their board? Those are the ones a namespace fits. If such a business goes for the matching keyword extension instead — a .school at ₹5,295, .clinic at ₹9,540 or .restaurant at ₹9,540 a year — it pays that bill every year. The same readable address with us is ₹999. The difference stays in their till.

how to read every card below

  1. 1 — How many shops? Businesses that already have this word on their board — every board that says “Veg Restaurant”, for example.
  2. 2 — What they'd pay elsewhere. If each of them bought the matching keyword extension (a .restaurant or .clinic address), that is the yearly bill for the whole sector.
  3. 3 — What they'd pay us. The same names at our flat ₹999. The gap between the two bills is money saved by the sector — every year, not once.

Across all 34 namespaces that is roughly 6.3 million businesses and about ₹4586.2 crore a year that would otherwise leave these sectors as domain fees.

Every figure below is a global count, and counts only businesses that already use the keyword in their own identity — signboard, registered name, or Google Business Profile title. A vegetarian restaurant that calls itself "Sangeetha Veg Restaurant" counts under veg.restaurant; one that merely serves vegetarian food does not. That is why these numbers are a fraction of sector totals: they describe businesses whose name already fits the namespace, not the whole category. Some keywords are India-rooted in origin, but they are counted worldwide — the same signboard words travel with the diaspora. And the base keeps growing: every business, and increasingly every individual, ends up needing a name and a website, so the addressable set expands year on year rather than shrinking.

Honest estimates — every figure traces back to one of these.

Name-mention estimates built by combining sector registers — UDISE+ and CISCE school data, NRAI India Food Services Report and Euromonitor global food-service counts, WHO traditional-medicine and Ministry of AYUSH registers, and global salon-sector studies — with observed naming frequency in business listings across markets. Figures are directional global estimates, not registry projections. Extension prices are taken from a single checked retail price sheet in rupees per year, not from list prices quoted by individual registrars.
